About our proposals

We’re pleased to have now resubmitted our application for a new McDonald’s restaurant at Riverside Avenue, representing a £4 million investment that will create up to 100 new local jobs, in addition to the 490 already employed in restaurants throughout Dundee.

The site benefits from an existing planning permission for two Drive-Thru units which was implemented in March 2025. This resubmission presents a development that is more fit for purpose and improves upon this permission. Our proposals for a single Drive-Thru restaurant aims to provide a better form of development by providing a scheme with improved pedestrian connectivity, additional cycle parking and high-quality landscaping.

As part of our commitment to community engagement, we held a public consultation to enable members of the local community to view and comment on our proposal for a new Drive-Thru restaurant at Riverside Avenue, Dundee. Prior to submitting the planning application, we held a public consultation event on Wednesday 16th April 2025 to present our updated proposals for the Riverside site and gather feedback from the local community. The event was well attended, with an encouraging number of local residents engaging with the consultation materials and discussing the plans directly with the project team.

Our revised proposal comprises a 309 sq.m modern free-standing single-storey McDonald’s restaurant with a Drive-Thru lane and 35 car parking spaces (including three accessible and three EV charging bays). The proposals also include new landscaping and boundary treatments to enhance the visual appearance of the site and support biodiversity. Additionally, recycling and waste facilities are proposed throughout the site to encourage waste disposal.

We do everything we can to encourage people to make the right choices when throwing away McDonald’s packaging and want to work with residents, tidy groups and Councils to tackle this issue together.
