The Site
The site
The proposal site is situated just to the north of London Road (A4). It is a brownfield parcel of land that previously held a two-storey commercial building which was approved for demolition in April 2017.
The proposal will provide a local drive thru facility for the south east of Slough and passing traffic on the A4. Our emerging proposals would regenerate what is currently an under-utilised, brownfield site with an attractive and sustainable McDonald’s Drive-Thru, delivering a range of local benefits
Planning History
Planning permission was granted in February 2021 for a residential scheme at the site. Since planning was granted, the viability of the current scheme has considerably diminished. There are several town centre developments located in more sought-after areas that offer outstanding amenities and transportation connections, and they currently have excess stock which is not selling. It is unlikely that the units on this London Road site – situated on a busy road outside the town – would find buyers.
As such – and with the economic backdrop of rising interest rates and the discontinuation of the help-to-buy scheme – the owners feel that to avoid making huge losses, there is no sense in continuing with this development.
