The Site

The site

McDonald’s is proposing to develop a new restaurant on the former Buffet Island restaurant site on Queslett Road. The all-you-can eat Chinese restaurant has been closed since 2020. More recently, Walsall Council approved the former restaurant building to be demolished, and the site cleared.

McDonald’s proposals will regenerate this derelict site and bring it back into restaurant use.

This is an ideal location for a McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru, at a key local transport intersection and easily accessible by nearby communities via foot and bicycle.

If approved, McDonald’s would transform the site into an attractive and sustainable McDonald’s drive-thru restaurant. The delivery of a new restaurant would enhance local food choice, while creating over 120 new jobs for local people.

McDonald’s Proposals and Benefits for Queslett

McDonald’s has a long history of offering amazing value and high-quality food in Walsall and believe there is demand for a McDonald’s restaurant to serve this side of the borough. Our proposals would see the delivery of a new drive-thru restaurant to cater for Walsall residents in this area; saving them travelling 20-minutes to the McDonald’s in Broadwalk Retail Park or visiting the one in Sutton Coldfield.

Our proposals include:

  • A new McDonald’s drive-thru restaurant, including indoor and outdoor seating for customers.
  • A multi-million-pound investment into the Queslett area, creating jobs for local people and supporting economic growth.
  • 47 on-site car parking spaces for customers, including 2 disabled spaces, 2 electric vehicle charging points, and bicycle parking.
  • A carefully planned internal queuing system to regulate traffic within the site.
  • Recycling and waste facilities across the site to encourage disposal of rubbish and reduce littering.
  • Attractive landscaping and new tree planting incorporated around the site, enhancing the appearance of this derelict site.
  • Supporting local community groups by investing in local charities and children’s sports programmes.

Benefits of a local McDonald’s

A new McDonald’s restaurant would deliver significant benefits in the local community, including by:

  • Creating approximately 120 new jobs for local people, with excellent training available and opportunities for progression. Both full and part-time opportunities would be available.
  • Regenerating a vacant and dilapidated brownfield site at a key local junction, enhancing the appearance of the local area.
  • Representing a significant investment into the local economy.
  • The restaurant would be operated by a local franchisee, that would support our programme of community sponsorship and volunteering in Walsall.
  • Generating between £50,000 and £60,000 in business rates (per year) for Walsall Council. This additional money can then be used to help fund key local services.
