The benefits
If approved, we will deliver a new and attractive McDonald’s Drive-Thru restaurant for East Kilbride, to meet customer demand and introduce more choice to the local area.
Our latest economic impact report shows that McDonald’s contributes around £10.4 million into South Lanarkshire’s regional economy.
We also take great pride in sourcing local ingredients wherever possible. Scottish farmers in particular benefit from approximately £17 million worth of income each year for products such as seed potatoes, beef and milk.
In Scotland, McDonald’s and our franchisees have recently established the ‘McDonald’s in the Community’ foundation, donating thousands of pounds, raised via the carrier bag charge, to local charities. Recent beneficiaries include Neil’s Hugs Foundation, Kidney Kids Scotland, The Falkirk Foundation and St Andrew’s Hospice.
If approved, the new Drive-Thru will generate between £50,000 and £60,000 in business rates (per year) for South Lanarkshire Council to help fund key local services.
If approved, the new Drive-Thru will deliver significant investment of around £4 million into South Lanarkshire, helping support the local economic recovery from Covid-19.
If approved, the new Drive-Thru will create over 120 new jobs in a range of full and part-time positions, in addition to the 600 already employed by McDonald’s across the South Lanarkshire and over 12,000 in Scotland.
